Former Kenya Pipeline and Malkia Strikers’ ace Veronica Adhiambo has landed a new home after agreeing terms with Greek second tier side GS Panionios.
Adhiambo, who was part of the national team that did duty at last year’s World Championships landed her first professional deal weeks after the global competition, joining Turkish second tier club Tarsus Belediyespor.
Daily Nation reports that the 23-year-old who plied her trade in the 2022/23 season in Turkey has signed a two-year deal with her new employer where she joins national team compatriot and former clubmate Sharon Chepchumba.
“I had a lot of offers from Turkish clubs but after discussing with my management we settled on the offer from Greece. I am grateful to Tarsus for the opportunity they gave me to experience professional volleyball for the first time. It has been a good season and I have learnt a lot,” Adhiambo said, talking to Daily Nation.
She reveals that the opportunity to play exclusively as an outside hitter as opposed to doubling as an opposite which was the case in Turkey helped her in the decision-making process as she gets to specialize the position.
In February this year, Adhiambo went through a harrowing experience as a devastating earthquake ripped through Turkey and Syria dealing the Kenyan a psychological blow.
Despite the challenges experienced, Adhiambo helped the side finish ninth on the 12-team league with 26 points, 11 behind fourth-placed Bahcelievler Belediyespor to miss out on the four promotion play-offs slots.
